I would have put this on Twitter *, but they need to lengthen the amount of CHARS allowed.
Here is the story of my ear piercings.
In 1994 I had both of my ears, left and right pierced at the "Earring Tree" or something similar in the College Mall
The women was doubly sure to ask me if I was SURE that I wanted both ears pierced.
Seems funny, but in 1994 that was still a weird thing for a guy in southern Indiana.
Then a year or two later I got the second set of 'mall' piercings above the previosu two.
Then in 1999 I broke my arm and used stretching my piercings as a way to deal with pain on my terms.
The broken arm was (and to a lesser degree is) a source of pain for a while.
This may seem twisted... but being able to control when, where, and to what degree I would exprerience pain was a part of stretching my piercings.
I have found, in retrospect, that I tend to stretch my piercings, get a piercing, etc. when I am experiencing some source of uncontrolled regular physical pain.
I think to that extent, it hearkens back to earlier such relationships with control, ritual, and pain.
Zoom to present....
I now an back to 00g on 3 of my four piercings.
1 (the upper in my left ear) got really beat up recently and closed up.
After a 30 minute bloody fight ;)
it is back to 0g.
And the hope is too soon have all 4 back to 00g.
3 @ 00g and 1 @ 0g is just awkward ;)
Here is to keeping jewelry... or at least being able to afford to buy new stuff when you lose the old.
